inspiration comes in many forms

What inspires you, why do you do what you do, and how do you do it? Have you ever really thought about these questions? Your inspiration is what makes you tick, and is probably the reason why you chose to work in the profession you have. Having a clear creative style will be what makes you unique. People are buying into your own particular version of what you do. It doesn’t matter if you are an accountant, a hairdresser or a photographer, what you do, your way of doing things and the way you interact with your clients, is where you can add the most value. This is why you yourself might use particular businesses and services, and it will be why people come to you.

With a strong creative style, you can get beyond the abstract, and find an aesthetic that helps to define you as a person, to your colleagues, clients and also to your competitors. Your personal taste is what will be on show. When you are authentic you will be more likely to attract the right customers who are a good fit for you, and your business. They will be people who either share your vision, or who will aspire to be part of what you are doing. They have a point of reference that will give them confidence to commit and to learn more.

The inspiration that drives you, will also drive clients to work with you. How you chose to portray yourself is the first, and most obvious, reflection of what you stand for. Using elements of what others are wearing may be inspirational and even applicable, but don’t copy them., be happy to put your own take on any particular trend or fashion. You can learn a lot from looking at how the people around you in your business and also your clients choose to dress. When you consider those you come into contact with, you might also highlight aspects in the way others present themselves that you would definitely change. Be aware of what works but also what doesn’t as a representative in your industry. Use that learning to build your image and your confidence.

milly’s top tip:

  • Being inspired to be the best version of you that you can be, is not achieved by trying to become a bad copy of someone else.
